Keeping ammonia, excess protein and algae to a minimum is part of successful marine aquarium maintenance. The vast ocean has no problem with these natural waste products, but since you don't have the benefit of a billion-gallon tank, you'll have to take over for mother nature using some common sense and a few helpful devices.
